Assistant Professor of Rhetoric

The Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin - Madison seeks applicants for a tenure-track, assistant professor in Rhetorical Studies to begin in August 2010. Candidates with a Ph. D. in Communication or an affiliated discipline will be considered. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching explore the intersections of rhetoric and culture as these forces contribute to processes of civic engagement, politics, and social change. Candidates may approach these themes from a diverse range of theoretical and methodological perspectives. Candidates should expect to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels -- including courses in rhetorical theory, criticism, and/or argumentation -- and develop and maintain a productive research program appropriate to a major public research university.

Assistant Professor of Communication Science

The Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin - Madison seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in Communication Science to begin in August 2010. Applicants with a Ph.D. in Communication or an affiliated social science discipline will be considered. A successful candidate must demonstrate strong credentials in conducting social scientific research (quantitative or qualitative) on social influence processes in a variety of contexts and substantive areas. Of particular interest are scholars working in the areas of health communication, new technologies, groups and social networks, and ethnic and racial relations. Candidates should expect to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and develop and maintain a productive research program appropriate to a major public research university.

Media Assistant

Application Form

The Department of Communication Arts Instructional Media Center (IMC) is looking for dedicated, hardworking students with an enthusiastic interest in film and digital technology. The IMC offers a rewarding work environment and significant experience with advanced media production equipment and computer technology. Students with experience or interest in film and video production, digital editing (Final Cut Pro), 16/35mm projection, or film processing are encouraged to apply.

Hours: 10-25 per week during regular academic semesters. Opportunities for additional hours exist near the end of semesters as the Instructional Media Center is open late nights and on weekends. Some hours also available during Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer.

Duties: Assist in the maintenance and circulation of film/video production equipment and DVDs/videos. Represent the Instructional Media Center to its users and visitors, including University faculty, staff, and graduate/undergraduate students. Prepare production equipment for circulation and inspect the condition of equipment returned by students. Check students in and out of editing suites and digital media labs. Troubleshoot basic user problems with computers and film production equipment. Prepare developed film for transfer to video. Prepare and project 16mm films and various video formats for Communication Arts class screenings. Maintain and operate film and video projectors. Experience and dedication could lead to 35mm projection/Wisconsin Film Festival opportunities.

Qualifications: Experience in Communication Arts production courses preferred but not required. Working knowledge of Mac OS X, Final Cut Pro, Windows XP, Microsoft Office, etc. a plus. Flexible schedule a plus. Ability to lift equipment and furniture weighing up to 50 lbs.
